MTH 303. THE TEACHING OF MATHEMATICS IN MIDDLE LEVEL AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

This course deals with educational perspectives which pertain to the teaching of mathematics at the middle and secondary level (grades 4 through 12). Topics of discussion include recommendations by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) regarding instructional methods, assessment techniques, and curricular issues. 40 hours practicum

Meeting Times(s):

This course carries four (4) credits.

Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm in SLC 431.


Prerequisiste(s):

MTH 111, junior standing in mathematics or middle level education, and admission to the Teacher Education Program.

Assignments:

This section of MTH 303 has been designated an Oral Presentation Option (OPO) course by the Wilkes University OPO Committee. Problem sets, written reports and other "pertinent tasks" will be frequently assigned.

Grading:

Your final course grade will be determined by:
  • Class presentations (40%)
  • Practicum (10%)
  • Assignments and quizzes (40%)
  • Participation in class discussions (10%)

General attendance will be taken and will affect borderline grades.
